2025 Events and Contests 

Disclaimer and Notice to Potential Entrants and Participants: These are family fun fishing events. For everyone's enjoyment of the event , we ask everyone to maintain their composure and positive attitudes during the event; including both on the water and at the boat launch. Anyone discovered to be "cheating", disorderly, or plain grumpy and rude will be denied entry or removed from the contest with no refund. ​

Walleye Opener Zone 14

 May 1 - 4th  Walleye Opener Derby    
Rules:
1. Enter any time between 8 am - 6 pm
May 17th with Team participants and Team Name.
2. Catch 4 LEGAL Walleye in Zone 14, bring them back for measuring, then join the fish fry!
Biggest 4 Walleye (by Length) wins!
3. Send us the picture, with the fish's measured length along side our verification card. And release it.
4. You must add yourself to our Spanish River Resort and campground page and tell your friends!
5. Entering this contest is with the understanding that fishing and boating have unknown variables that can be dangerous or life threatening, even so, you are choosing to enter at your own risk and you take sole responsibility for yourself and your groups safety. 
6. Contest runs from Thursday May 1st - 8 am, until Sunday 6pm.  May the 4th be with you!
7. All contestants enter at their own risk.  Water and wind conditions can change suddenly.
8. This is a Zero alcohol event , water on the water!
9. Entering event constitutes permission to use your pics for promotion purposes and agreement to rules.
10. * Must sign waivers when registering. Boat captains are responsible for their crew. If you didn't sign a waiver and pickup your verification card, you're not entered. All participants must sign.

Update: Boat staging and boat ramp
  • Boats are to stage and prepare in the round-about beside the boat launch.
  • Take off tarps, straps, put in plugs etc before backing down the ramp.
  • Send the captain to register, pay, sign waiver and pickup your contest verification card
  • Launch your boat and immediately move your boat South along the 80 ft dock to allow for the next boat.
  • Once you've secured your boat along the dock, then return to park your vehicle and trailer.

May 17 and 18th - Zone 10 Walleye Derby - $20 per person

Everyone who enters the derby gets a chance to win an entrance prize!

You can enter for 1 day only or both days, each day is $20.
Chance to win a Prize each day just for registering for the derby!

Grand Prize winner - wins a 1 week Cabin rental for 2, with a boat slip. (To be used in 2025)
2nd Place winner - receives a season boat launch pass
3rd place - $100 gift card and tackle box from Home Hardware in Massey.

2 Days Saturday and Sunday

1. Launch at any ramp May 17th+18th 8am - 6pm.
2. Register for the derby at our Resort, Fish zone 10
3. When you have your 2 biggest legal fish of the Zone, send us a pic with total length. And come back 
4. Add yourself to our Spanish River Resort and campground page and tell your friends!

Cost to participate is $20 per person per day.
All people in the boat with a fishing licence must be registered and entered. 
Boat Launch Rate Not Included.
Parking Space is limited. Arrive early!
If you choose...use the Municipal Marina Parking lot and register from the dock.

Derby hours run 8am-6pm with winners announced online at end of 2nd day.

Canada Day Party! (June 30th)

Come celebrate Canada's birthday this year with friends and family. Come tent camp, stay in your Rv, or book one of our cabins. We will be having a BBQ potluck dinner, a live classic rock band, and fireworks!
Since Canada Day falls on a Tuesday, will be having our Pre-Canada Party on June 30th, Monday.

Kayak & Camp Fish Derby!

August 15, 16th, 17th 
This event is just for kayak fishermen!

Fish and explore the Spanish River Delta, the Spanish River and Whalesback of the North Channel. Zones 10 and 14.

Come on out to the Spanish River Resort & Campground, stay for the days either in our cabins, bunkie or your own Rv trailer or tent.

We have a course race, fishing derby, BBQ dinner and more!

Be sure to register and book in advance. Space is limited.

Spanish in Spanish! - August 16th 2025

A night of live music, dancing with a Spanish Flavour !

The show celebrates the richness of latin culture through dance and song. This live event will feature a live percussion band with dancers that invites the audience to get up and dance!

Bring your dancing shoes!
(And lawn chairs)

Event is 7pm-10pm, Don't be late.
Tickets at the entrance.

$10 for Adults and $5 for kids.

Jigging for Giants: A Fall North Channel Fishing and Seminar Rv/Camping weekend

Choose either a 3 day coaching event or just the Walleye Derby!

This is the last Walleye Event of the year being held at The Spanish River Resort & Campground. It is October, 6-8th, in Spanish, Ontario.  The event will host a series of coaching clinics over the first 2 days and end with a finale walleye derby on the 8th. The derby will be both a test and battleground for our participants. 
This event is 1 of its kind, and is for anglers who are ready to up their game, land a new personal best and catch a true trophy Walleye. Do not miss your chance to join this fun and competitive event where you will learn from the Pro’s about the latest gear, techniques and right conditions to help you start Jigging for Giants on your own.
FYI…this isn’t a casual weekend fishing trip with Grandma—it’s an elite Walleye training camp designed for those who want to fish smarter with the latest gear and tackle to land bigger trophy fish. Our location in the the North Channel, particularly the Whalesback Channel, is known to hide Walleye gold, are you ready to learn how to find yours?

The 3 day Jigging for Giants event will cost $100 per person PLUS your chosen accommodations of Cabin, Bunkie, Rv, trailer or camp site. See camping page for pricing details.
$100 Includes boat launch, boat slip, and derby entry, 1 BBQ dinner and 1 Walleye derby entry fee.

Walleye Derby Only 
Competitive fishermen can enter the last day Walleye derby and fish fry at a cost of $100 per person. 

This is a fun event but will be adult only and no pets please.  

Rules, regulations and waivers must be followed and signed to participate.

This is a catch and release derby aimed at promoting and protecting the Walleye industry via sustainable fishing practices in the North Channel.
Jigging for Giants - Tentative Itinerary; three days of fun, fish and Walleye action.
Monday Day 1 
​7-9am - Registration, setup, meet and greet
9-10am - Dry session on-land coaching clinic with pro anglers breaking down proven Walleye techniques, gear, habitat and strategy.
1030-2:00 pm - Wet session coaching clinic, the Jigging begins!
2:00- 4pm - Free Fish
5pm - Welcome BBQ - dont be late.

Tuesday Day 2 
7-8am - Dry session on-land coaching clinic with Pro Anglers, going over yesterdays wins and fails, showcasing gear and techniques
8-11:30 Wet Session coaching clinic on-the-water training, start to put your new skills to the test in the legendary North Channel.
12-1pm Lunch 
1pm - 2pm Dry Session on-land Clinic - review and question period.

Wednesday Day 3 – The ultimate test: the Walleye Derby. 
A competitive test to see who has put it all together and can now land giants!
7-10am registration.
8am - 3pm Derby 
3:30 pm- 4pm - Awards and prizes
4-5pm BBQ/Walleye Fish Fry.
Learn from the Pros about the latest gear and tackle while making new friends and finding Walleye gold!
This camping and fishing event is a one of kind is aimed helping the Not So Pro fishermen catch their Walleye personal best dream. 

The 3 day event will run from Monday October 6-9th ending Thursday morning. Best to arrive Sunday evening. (4 nights stay)

Each day will have a social seminar component and then a free fishing period. The goal is to have fun, showcase new gear and techniques while educating fishermen on how to maintain the species sustainability.

There will be daily prizes and give aways. Also a  BBQ and last day Derby and fish fry.
